Hi...

This isn't a great problem but it is an issue that we are wondering
about.

We have several Server 2003 AD child domains with each child domain
having it's own Exchange E-Mail domain as well..

Often times when we go to create a new Distribution List one of the
other child domain's Exchange server pops up when it gets to the
screen to create an E-Mail address for the group. It isn't always the
same child domain's Exchange server that is presented as the first
choice.

We can still choose our child domain's Exchange server however I find
it odd that the choice doesn't default to our own child domain.

Not sure if this is an AD question or an Exchange question.

Any thoughts? Theorires? Facts?

Thanks!

The Exchange snap-in as well as the ADUC extensions communicate to an AD DC,
not Exchange. Now if the Distribution Group you are creating is a Universal
Group, they are not domain specific. This would dictate is it contacting a
GC, because that is where Universal Groups get stored, not in any domain. So
the other child DC it chooses is possibly a GC, because I would imagine they
are picked by Round Robin querying DNS for the available GCs. You can find
all the GCs in the forest listed under the "gc._msdcs.domain.com" zone.

Do you have Sites configured?
