Re: AD and Exchange not creating new users

Hello Bill M.,

I hope my thoughts are correct:

For the creating of mailboxes you have to delegate exchange rights in the exchange system manager. Rightclick your exchange name and choose delegate control, here add the domain administrator or a security group or your account and give it the right Full Exchange administrator.

For the mail ending check this:

Open Exchange System manager
- Click on Recipients
- Click on Recipient Policies
- Double click on Default Policy Properties
- Click on the tab E-Mail Addresses (Policy)
- Click on the button NEW
- Select SMTP Address
- In Address Space type @companyname.ca
- You can set companyname.ca like primary e-mail
- Save - close system manager
- Wait few minutes to Recipient update service update all users in AD

Also you have to create a MX record in DNS for the mail server. From another posting:

Make sure that you have a PTR record that matches the A record associated with the MX record. In other words, like this:

MX record:
domain.com MX preference = XX, mail exchanger = mail.domain.com
A record:
mail.domain.com internet address = IP.IP.IP.IP
PTR record:
IP.IP.IP.IP.in-addr.arpa name = mail.domain.com

The PTR records must be registered by whomever owns the IP netblock (usually your ISP).

Best regards

am building new servers with a Domain controller a file server and a
Exchange server. We come from Windows Small Bus. Server 2003 were this
is all intergrated and I want them seperate due to the loading on the
systems as we grow.. I have purchased the software and Cals and have
the domain controller setup with companyname.local and the file server
is also a domain controller attached . The Exchange server box is a
Domain member.. So all three servers are working , networked and all
is fine. Now I have a registered domain such as companyname.ca and I
would of course be using fred@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx as an example of the
email addresses..

I loaded Exchange 2003 (standard) on the server doing forest and
domain prep but when I create a new user on the domain controller it
asks me for the username and passwords plus it states Email Username
field and then a domain pull down which only shows the
companyname.local not the companyname.ca that I want and it does not
create the user in the Exchange server so I am lost.

I have a feeling that the issue is that we have .local on the inside
domain and I want .ca on the outside mail domain..
