Re: Upgrading to Windows Server 2008

You can do an in place upgrade, but beware, there isn't much hardware
support for old hardware (I ended upgrading Dell 2650 in the lab). I
upgraded a DELL machine prior to doing a fresh install. Contacting Dell
they just said no support on anything less than a 2950. So I did an upgrade
instead of a fresh install. I hadn't close the case yet and let Dell know I
no longer needed them. When I let them know what I had done the engineer
asked me for details on what I had done, etc... since they are now
evaluating what they are and aren't supporting. So I ended up sending him
info on the system, this is disappointing since you would have thought they
would be working closely with Microsoft on driver support.

Long story short, I would expect when you move to 2008, your hardware had
best be relatively new if you want to be on the HCL.

I know is too early to be asking this question, but I need to start getting
an idea what is like and what is involve.... I have a single Forest/
Domain
Windows Server 2003 small network with 2 DCs, I manaed to setup a lab
domain
duplicate of our production domain, all DCs are running Windows Server
2003
R2 w/ SP2. The question is: "Will I be able to perform an in place upgrade
of
one of the DCs running Windows Server 2003 R2 wSP2 to Windows Server 2008"
and "still keep my current settings as they are"?

Are there any issues, caveats, has someone done this in a lab?...........

Also does anyone know the official hardware requirements to run Windows
Server 2008 as a DC only.
