If you don't want to invest in third-party software, system state backup is the only option you have for AD.
What I would suggest in your case, if you can afford it, is to find a "swing server" (or PC is acceptable) where to install a replica, demote the original, reconfigure your RAID, resinstall, repromote and demote the replica.
Note: this is a summary of the procedure, there are of course additional thing to care for. But it ensures availability too.

I have a new client that purchased a SuperMicro Server running Windows 2003
Small Business server and is RAID 5 ready. The original engineer that
configured the server did not setup the RAID and just used the drives
seperately. I convinced the client to migrate the server to RAID 5 and my
question is: can I backup just the AD objects like users, groups, directory
rights, DHCP/DNS configuration and not the whole system state? This would
save me some time in the restore process. My second question would be, if
there isn't a way to do this WHY ISN'T THERE? Seeems like a "no-brainer" to
me.
Thanks in advance,
