I have the same problem but here is what I have issue with. Two servers
are
listed in my Default-First-Site-Name, for this post lets say SRV1 and
SRV2.
I know for a fact that SRV1 was demoted properly as I did it, I cant
verify
that SRV2 was. I have ran through the metadata cleanup in NTDSUTIL and
checked the Default-First-Site-Name for DCs and only the currently running
one is listed. The two that are in ADSS along with the currently running
are
not listed when I type "list servers for domain in site" command.

I have also verified that in ADUC the SRV1 & SRV2 DC's are not listed in
Domain Controllers but in Computers. I remember after demotion I needed
files off of SRV1 (which I demoted) so I had to connect it to the domain
to
grab the files so that is why its listed there. So basically i have old
DCs
listed in ADSS and ADUC under computers. So does metadata cleanup still
apply to me?

Just don't complete the remove selected server step as well as the
actual
delete step.

OK. When I run this tool, do I have the option to look at what we
have
WITHOUT making any changes? I will feel more comfortable running it
if I
know I can Exit without chnages. Also, are ther confirmation screens
before changes? Thanks.

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that there is no coverage for sp2 but that
shouldn't be a big deal. I will send in a note to see about it
getting
updated, but that can take months.

Ok. Should I use Procedure #1 in this article? I have Windows 2003
with SP2. Thanks.

I am told that DCPromo was used to demote it. The server itself
has
been wiped out and re-formatted a couple times since and is now
being
used for something else under a new name.

Was this server (DC) properly demoted from AD? How was it
removed?

I have an old server listed under
Default-First-Site-Name/Servers.
Is it safe just to right-click and delete this entry here?

Thanks!
