All,
I have a just upgraded to a Windows 2003 newtwork (From Windows
2000). I have a few remaining windows NT workstations.
I need to be able to map a newtwork drive on the NT workstations when
my users logon to them. Windows 2000 allowed my to use POLEDIT.EXE to
configure a logon script for the old NT boxes, but Win2k3 does not
seem to have POLEDIT.EXE.
Is there a way with windows 2003 to applly a logon script to map a
newtwork drive for the NT workstations? OR!, I remember that there
was a way to do this in the NT workstations registry. I used to load
the hive for the default users and setup a mapped drive, then delete
all the existing user account and anyone who logged on that box would
be a new user account and the mapped drive. I cannot remember how to
do that.. either way will work just fine but i need some advice!!
TIA
Drum on .. .. . . .
Create a test account.
Make it a domain admin.
Logon as the test account.
Set up the profile as you like it. Map a drive, change the desktop, etc etc.
Logoff
Logon as the domain admin
Go to the NT4's local user manager, choose Profiles, and copy the test
account's profile to the default user profile and allow Everyone to see it.
Now it has been quite a few years since I looked at an NT4 box and can't
exactly remember this part, but I'm sure you'll find it.
Or if you know who will be logging on to those machines, you can simply
create a logon.bat file, place it in the Netlogon folder, and for the users
that use the NT4 machine, provide the logon.bat filename under the Profiles
tab in AD in the user's account properties.
Or you can create a default profile on one of the NT4 machines using the
steps I mentioned, share it, and provide the path to this share under the
user's properties, profile tab, profile box.
Or even create a batch file on the local machine, and provide a shortcut to
it in the Startup folder in the All Users profile.
See if this helps too:
