Got a disaster recovery question for you guys! Is there any need to back
up
an entire domain controller? Or is backing up the system state enough?
The background: I have multiple domain controllers which are -just-
domain
controllers (no file sharing, printers, databases, etc). Backups are
duplicated with one set kept off-site.
If a server exploded, I would think that I'd just build the new equipment
as
a domain controller, and join it back to the domain (siezing/transferring
FSMO if appropriate). It should replicate and bring itself back to a
current
AD state.
Or, if all the DCs exploded, I would think I could just build one as a
"fresh" domain controller and then restore the system state. Next, I'd
rebuild the rest of the DCs, joining them back in as appropriate.
Sound good? Or is there a reason to back up the whole C: drive? How do
you
guys do it?
