You said you had no luck joining the domain, so there is some type of
communications issue.
I'm not sure what is going on? Are you able to do an nslookup of your dc
from your workstation?

Paul,
Both of these machines are hard wired to the Linksys router.
I have not used portqryui is that somewhere on the server CD? I'm not
familiar with that one.
I read the article and checked to see what "exceptions" were in
windows firewall. I could not find an entry for::
1024-65535/TCP 1024-65535/TCP LSA RPC Services (*)
1024-65535/TCP 445/TCP SMB
When I went in to try and add an entry for 445/TCP it gave me a
message that a rule for that port already existed. So to solve that I
just temporarily turned windows firewall off on the server and tried
it again. I got the same result.
Thanks
dbl

So how is the connectivity between this workstation and your dc? Are you
vpn's in? What ports are open, etc...?
Have you looked at portqryui? I believe these is a saved qry to check
for
connectivity between a workstation and server.
Below is a link for the ports that are required to be open for the
different
protocols:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179442/en-us

I am behind a Linksys WRT54G router and I have windows firewall turned
on ... but used Microsoft's Security Configuration Wizard to configure
it properly. Or at least I think properly :).
There does not appear to be an error on the server but there is two
warnings on the workstation:
Event ID 1515 "Windows had backup this user profile. Windows will
automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user
logs on."
Event ID 1511 "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging
you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile
will be lost when you log off."

There must be a message in the Event Log. What is that?
Did you check to make sure there wasn't any firewall issues? Or are
you
inside? Forgot if I have already asked that.

Paul,
I ran the nltest and got an error ... I'm cussing myself becuase I
closed the screen before I wrote down what it was. But I had
already
run the reset from the workstation so I couldn't run it again until
after I had tested things. The nltest did not work ... so then I
removed it from the domain and added it back in using the "Network
ID"
wizard. That didn't work.
When I ran the nltest again I got:
I_NetLogoControl failed: Status = 1722 0x6ba
PRC_S_SERVER_UNAVALIABLE
Which is what I think it was the first time but I can't be 100%
sure.
Any other thoughts?

Well that all looks good. A lot of times a bad mask, gateway,
etc...
will
create this type of error.
Lets check the machine account within the domain
From a command prompt on the dc
nltest /server:WORKSTATION_NAME /sc_query:DOMAIN_NAME
If you get a failure you can either reset with nltest /sc_reset or
remove
and add the workstation from the domain
From a command prompt on the workstation try
nltest /server:WORKSTATION_NAME /sc_reset:DOMAIN_NAME
