Re: After succesfull upgrade to AD2003 ,DC fails after moving Mast

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello A10,

But moving the Schema master role will not occur in this kind of problems normally. So the errors would be really needed to verify your problems. Anyway, because you rebuild the old situation, if i understand you right, i would suggest you , before starting the next try, please post the detailed steps here, so that the people here can first have a look on it and gave you some more infos if needed. Especially with virtual domain controllers. And if you like to do it this way, also give a complete overview of the servers in your environment, just that we have a complete situation.

Best regards

Hello Meinolf,

Thank you for your reply. It is/was a production server and i needed
it back
in service quicky. I burned it and seized back the roles to a DC 2000
srv.
Cleaned up the AD with metadata cleanup.
I was running DNS service on this DC. I have set up a virtual Srv and
will
be having another attempt with less stress of a non working production
server
down. (why didn't i do that first,mmm).
I didn't have any problems with the adprep or dcpromo. Actually
everything
was working okay until i moved the master schema.
Will run dcdiag and netdiag and post.

kind regards,
Andrew Peters.

Hello A10,

Please post the complete error message from the event viewer. Is DNS
installed on the new DC and how is it configured? Did you run dcdiag
and netdiag against the domain controllers? Please post the complete
output from the command here for your Domain controllers.

Best regards

After succesfully adpreping 2000 / domain /forest /group too AD2003
RT and succesfully installing DC 2003 all is well. After moving the
FSMO roles to the new DC 2003 server and the Master Schema. After
reboot the server is cut off. I recieve only errors pointing towards
no endmapper points. Have gone though the knowlegde base artikels
about these problems and checked them. This appears to be okay. But
my DC is not okay he/she is stranded on an island of no return.

Regards,
Andrew
