Re: The Active Directory is rebuilding indices, please wait

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Go in eventvwr - start>run>eventvwr and check the Directory Services event
log in particular. This message you're getting could mean a number of
things.

Thanks for your reply,
How do I check the event log? Can we just terminate the process and go to
the safe mode?
We only have backup for 1 week.

It should not normally take that long. Have you already checked the
event log for other errors?
How's your tape backup situation? I'm not saying you'll need it just yet,
but that's not something you want to see during startup and you may get
to a point where you have to go to tape.

First thing to do is to check for other errors in the event log,
especially the system log. What was going on prior to the message other
than the security updates being applied? Any hardware issues? Anything
else that should not be there?

Hi
I installed a couple of windows security updates last week but only
managed to restart/reboot the server this weekend.
During the boot up process the windows displaying a message "The Active
Directory is rebuilding indices, please wait"
I wait very long from morning 10 am until now (10.48 pm), the process
still running.
This server is very critical for us it has the AD and the Exchange
inside.
Should we try uninstall the security updates? Please help.

Kind Regards,

Jimmy
