Re: Reappearing Desktop Items after deletion

I have also seen this happen if you have a roaming profile stored on the
server in the same location as a redirected my documents -- both to
\\<ServerName>\%Username% perhaps.
When you delete the desktop icon, it goes away from the desktop and server,
but because the server location is set to sync on logoff, the server sees the
file version in the offline version stored in the user profile directory in
My Documents on the local computer and puts it back on the server location.
Then, the next time you log in, it will see the file back in the server copy
of the desktop folder and push it to the desktop making it reappear.
I have seen this happen a few time in places where they had roaming profiles
working and thought to use some of the features of folder redirection for My
Documents or the like and didn't realize that they were sending them to the
same place. The offline synchronization kicks in a makes a bit of a circular
mess.
The Fix: In the short term, the file will go away if you delete it in both
locations. In the long term, you will need to move folder redirections to a
location outside of the roaming profile.
Cheers,

There's a policy that blocks desktop changes do you have that gpo option
enabled?

Hi
If the folder is redirected to a file server, that means that when the
user
deletes something, that action is equal to delete some file/folder on a
network share, and when you do that the file won't go to the recycle bin.
You may want to use VSS to retain versions of the files so you can
recover
them more quickly in case of deletion

We are having a really strange problem. We have windows 2003 standard
edition with Service Pack 2 running roaming profiles with the
documents and application data folders using redirection to speed up
profile load times. When a user deletes something from his/her
desktop, the item disappears as it should but does not show up in the
recycle bin. After logging out or restarting the computer, the item
is back on the desktop! The users are local administrators on their
own machines and have full NT security access rights to their profile
share on the server. They are owners on their profile shares as
well. Here is what I have tried so far:
1. RSoP to check that the group policy folder redirection wasn't
causing any problems while being applied.
2. Removed the machine off of the domain and readded it to the domain
to make sure it wasn't an issue with the machine during network
communications with the server.
3. DCDiag - all test passed.
4. NetDiag - all tests passed.
There is nothing in the event viewer that shows any permissions issues
when attempting to delete a file. I am really at wit's end. Any help
at all would be really appreciated!

Thanks Jorge. My problem actually is the opposite. The file won't
delete. It comes back upon reboot or logoff/logon!
