Re: Cannot find domain controller

Hi
The events for 40960 and 40961 are related with not having the Reverse
Lookup Zone in the DNS, if I recall correctly the SBS wizard doesn't create
that for you, you must do it manually (confirm if you have a Reverse Zone),
if your server has the Reverse zone, check:
- If you're using the correct DNS server on client NIC properties.
-If you've the reverse lookup zone.
-If the reverse lookup zone accepts dynamic updates.
-If you don't have any FW that is bloking the client.

without a reverse lookup zone and PTRs, you may see 40960 and 40961 events
due to Win2k3 and WinXP trying to make a secure PTR registration at the
External DNS that is Authoritative over the reverse lookup of the IP on the
machine's local interface. If it's a private address it will say cannot
establish a secured connection with the server prisoner.iana.org. Also,
nslookup will report "Can't find server name for address
<IPAddressOfDNSServer>", create a reverse lookup zone to solve the 40960 and
40961 errors

I have error message in computer Application log that when user logon to
the
computer domain controller is unavailable and group policy processing
aborted. However, I can ping DC by IP and by name so DNS is working. And
later when user tries to open Outlook connected to Exchange, user gets
error
message "Outlook cannot start because connection to the server is
unavailable" and there is warning message in System log that says about
LSA
errors. The server is SBS 2003, so it is single domain controller on the
network and also is Exchange. I tried to run netdiag and some other
Microsoft
recomended tests and they all came out without errors.
Any idea what can it be?
