Re: Windows 2003 print server help

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

when you share printer, let checked the box to publish them in AD.

To start with, you can use the free things from Windows:
control panel
Add remove programs
windows component
Application Server
Internet Information server
Internet printing

This will add a folder to IIS, with ASP pages that display printer and got the code to allow users to add them easily

I used it to make our own web site to connect printer.

How did you do that?

I suppose I could do a visio drawing and save it as a website, but how would I link printers to AD?

So I need to start with a print server? Do printers then go into AD?

Hello,

Having a printer server would help:
-they can search in ad to add printer themselves
-this may prevent issue with many people printing at the same time on the same printer.

In our company i made a website with drawing of floor, so they choos the floor, see the map, click, get the possible printer, and click again to map them.

We have 100's of XP PC's/Laptops and we manually add printers to the machines when we give it to the user. All our printers/copiers are IP based so we just use LPR/Standard TCP/IP point-to-point printing, it's a boring nightmare.

We have an Active Directory infrastructure, how can I improve this method? Should I be using a print server? If so do I then need to publish them in AD then into a group policy?

I really don't know if this is possible and wondered what I can do?
