|
| Each computer object has two names. The field labeled "Name" in ADUC is
the
| Common Name of the object. It must be unique in the container/OU. Several
| objects can have the same Common Name as long as they are in different
| containers or OU's. There is also the "pre-Windows 2000" computer name,
on
| the "General" tab of the properties dialog in ADUC. This name must be
unique
| in the domain. It is the same as the NetBIOS name of the computer.
|
| If both computers are in the same domain, their "pre-Windows 2000" names
| must be different. The error message indicates their common names must be
| the same. How are you seaching for the name in the OU? If you are
searching
| for the NetBIOS name, that is the same as the "pre-Windows 2000" name
(which
| must be unique). You need to search for the Common Name (the value of the
| "cn" attribute).
|
| I believe you must rename the computer (at least the Common Name) before
you
| can move it into the OU. Possibly the conflict arose when the computer
was
| joined to the domain and the "fix" was to make the NetBIOS name different
| from the Common Name.
