Re: domain upgrade question

I know what you mean. I had to read it a few times to get it to sink in.
what I would do is look for the attributes the article refers to in the inetorg fix. If they are there, then you are ok.

as for the second question, as long as you run adprep /forestprep /domainprep and allow for adequate time for changes to replicate you can install new w2k3 dc's or upgrade w2k dc's.

Thanks, but I read that before I posted. The article is very
longwinded and confusing at times. That's why I'm asking for someone
to confirm my first question ... I believe I'm OK, but just want to be
sure.

The article doesn't seem to answer my second question at all.

Hello,
I have recently inherited a network that is something of a house of
cards. Thus, every move I make towards stabilizing it, has to be
carefully thought out.
It is a Windows 2000 domain with two Exchange 2003 servers .... I
would like to upgrade the domain to 2003. Is there anything special I
need to consider (such as mangled attributes)? I'm assuming the
inetorgfix was never run on this network, but I read that the mangled
attribute was an issue with Exchange 2000 server, not 2003 ,so the
Exchange 2003 upgrade performed by one of the previous engineers
should have taken care if this issue, right?
Also, does it make difference if I promote an existing 2000 domain
controller to 2003 or simply install a new 2003 member server and run
dcpromo on it (after running ADPREP on the FSMO, of course). I prefer
to start with a clean Windows 2003 server, rather than in-place
upgrade. Is either route better than the other?
I have done this sort of thing several times in the past without
issue, but this network is strewn with landmines so I need to tread
carefully and make sure all changes are done right the first time.- Hide quoted text -
