It was SQL Express 2005 hosting the database for Outlook 2007 Business
Contact Manager.
You have a DC running Exchange and SQL? Oh my, you definitely live on the.
edge.

Yes you can make and Exchange machine a DC, no problems. (need to add a
delegate assignment for AD admins, KB 232070) and the Exchnage 2007
machine
is now a DC.
Unfortunately broke the SQL2005 Express installation, which I am
attempting
to fix now, but Exchange correctly identified the two DC's and works fine.

Not sure about Exchange 2007 but in previous versions you couldn't change
roles once Exchange was installed. So I will be quite surprised if you
will
be able to promote (DCPROMO) this machine to a DC.

We are trying to make our nicely working Exchange 2007 Server 2003 x64
R2
SP2
a secondary domain controller in case main server is down, so Exchange
2007
will still work.
The main domain controller (+DNS) is Server 2003 32bit SP2 (non R2). As
far
as I know is configured and working fine (Exchange 2007 is happy with
it).
Anyway when trying to add active directory to the Exchange Server
machine
it
fails with:
The operation failed because:
The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the
forest
is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep
command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more
information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.
"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not
compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."
Is this due to 2003 R2 and plain 2003 issues ?
Is presence of Exchange 2007 causing this ?
