RE: Event ID 1058, why does it occur?

Thanks for the reply. however i am aware of the ways to fix this issue. I
just would like to know why it happens.

Like why will i not get any errors for months, then one day for no apparent
reason, after no change has been made, the errors start occurring again...

Its just a bit weird

hi,

1. Check your DFS and netlogon service status, and check the startup type,Set
the
startup type as automatic and start the service if it is stopped.
2. Domain controllers have the read and apply rights to the Domain
Controllers
policy.
3.NTFS file system permissions and share permissions are set correctly on
the
Sysvol share.
4.DNS entries are correct for the domain controllers.

A hotfix is available for resolving this issue,if above mentioned issues are

I have been getting event ID 1058 a few times recently, and while i can fix
it pretty quickly now i'm still struggling to understand why it keeps
occurring.

The latest 1058 i got was an access denied on to a GP.ini file, i checked on
the problem DC and the file was located under the correct path e.g.
\sysvol\domain\policies\.... and it had exactly the same permissions as other
DCs in our domain...

So yea i just basically wanna know why this error keeps reoccurring ever now
and then and what I can do to fix it permanently.

p.s. Will installing server 2003 Sp2 help at all?

thanks!
