I am new to Group Policy and am having problems getting a GPO to work for
me.
I have made a new OU and placed a new user in it. In Group Policy
Management I have set this OU to block inheritance,
You should seldom if ever use Block Inheritance. Why did you use that?
and linked it to an existing, very simple GPO that runs a logon script
(User Config, Windows
Settings, Scripts(logon/logoff)). The only thing this script does is map
3
drives. In the "scope" section i have added the new user which I want
this
GPO to affect. I have run gpupdate /force.
That isn't necessary and seldom useful as "force" doesn't do what it sounds
like.
Since this GPO only has logon scripts any (gp) Update is only going to be
useful at LOGON.
When I Log On with the user in
question, I know the policy is not working because the network drives are
not
mapped. I also found a setting in the GPO to "Run Logon Scripts Visible",
and when I logon I see nothing.
Most of the time this due to one of two things:
1) Computer is not autheticating and so downloading NO GPOs
(Usually a DNS problem)
2) Logon script is not in the correct directory
(Let the GPEdit console chose the CORRECT place and
use the editor it sets up when you create a new Logon
script.)
I know there can be myriad problems, but for those who are well versed in
GP, is there anything obvious I am not doing to get this gpo to run when
the
user logs in?
One other likely reason: You have more than one DC and they haven't
replicated yet.
