Thanks again. It all seems so simple and there lies the trap, it isnt.

It actually IS SIMPLE but that is not (really) the trap.

The problem is that the rules are never explained in one place in most
any resource.

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the GUI (and even the
common line tools) are designed to handle some of the complexity
and thereby HIDE some of the details so it is difficult to "learn it
from the tools".

When you combine these two you get authors and instructors who
either don't understand it at all, or who only THINK they understand it.

So, the key is to really learn the true rules -- then prove them to yourself
so thoroughly that no one can talk you out of these RULES.

By rules, I mean the actual technical details, not the "best practices"
which Joe and I were discussing.

Remember, in many cases Joe and I would set the SAME exact
share permisisions even though we might disagree in others, but we
would both KNOW the RULES absolutely correctly.
