Re: How to reset admin password in Active Dir. Domain Controller win20

In news:FEA5AE9F-6D8C-4DED-AB92-7D009457000B@xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Lowell <Lowell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> typed:
We encountered a problem on the Windows Server 2003 ( Active
Directory Domain Controller ), this is what had happened. After
updating the Symantec AV definitions, we decided to boot the server.
After booting up we tried to login using the "Administrator" profile,
after entering the correct password, the system prompted "The system
could not log you on make sure your user name and domain are correct,
then type your password again ".

We try again to restart the server and after booting there's an error
message prompt before the logon to the system. Here's the system error
mesages:
" PcAnywhere has had a compatibility problem with your system.
AW-HOST.SYS has been disabled: to re-enable, choose options from the
tools menu. On the host operation propertypage, change the video mode
to ÄCCELERATOR ENABLED".

Is it possible for you to help us on how to enable, retrieve or
restore the admin password of the server win2003? or do u have any
tools to help us? Ill try downloading password-changer software and
Hiren's boot cd unfortunately we are unsucessfull. Thanks

If a DC has been compromised, there is really no way to 'change' the
password since it is the domain password and not a local password. That is
why those password changer tools won't work.

Is this the only DC? I hope you have more than one DC. If this is the onely
DC, I hope you have a backup to perform a restore.

If there are additional DCs, you can reinstall this one, and perform a
Metadata Cleanup on the other one to remove this DC's reference in AD.

On another note, I have seen multiple issues in the past using PC Anywhere
on a DC. I would rather use Terminal Services and UltraVNC to remotely
administer it. If this is for user access, I wouldn't normally allow a user
account (a non-administrator) to ues PC Anywhere or any other methods to
access a DC.
