I would like to know how other IT experts would handle this situation.
I want to upgrade my network to Windows 2003 Active Directory.
I have 2 Servers:
1 - Windows 2000 Server (DC) with Exchange 5.5
2 - Windows 2003 Server (Member) Terminal Server
I have bought 4 new Servers for the next configuration:
1 - Windows 2003 Server (DC)
2 - Windows 2003 Server (Member) with Exchange 2003
3 - Windows 2003 Server (Member) Terminal Server Load balancing
4 - Windows 2003 Server (Member) Terminal Server Load balancing
You should have at least two Domain Controllers. Buy a fifth
machine and make it a DC, too (no fancy hardware needeD).
Migrating Active Directory from 2000 to 2003 is mostly painless,
and there are lots of docs out there that describe on h
ow to do this (Schema upgrade, Join new DC, Decomission old DC).
Exchange 5.5 to 2003 Migrations however are a tad more difficult.
Depending on the number of users you have, there are multiple
ways on how to handle this. The easiest is the Mail Migration
Wizard included in Exchange 2003.
