Currently we have a corporate office (with a datacenter) and a hosted
DR site. We have two active domain controllers, one in the corp
datacenter and one at the DR site. We are going to be adding a foreign
satellite office soon. We are planning on adding a domain controller
at the satellite office. I am looking for best practices on how to do
the following:
1. Users at our CORP location do not ever go to the new Domain
Controller at the satellite office for authentication.
2. Satelitte office uses new Domain Controller for authentication, and
then can see the CORP domain controller as a backup.
1. Each location must be its own subnet.
2. Create a Subnet object and a Site Object in AD to represent each location.
The Adctive Directory Site is tied to the subnet,...anything in that subnet is
treated as part of the Site. Users in a particular Site will always use the DC
that is in their Site.
The AD Site Object is used to regulate Active Directory Replication over the
slow WAN link thaty exists between the Sites.
Should be able to find more deatils about using AD Sites from Ms's website. It
should be easier now that you know what you are looking for.
