So you're saying that the servers are not currently using boot from san?
Is that correct?

You said these were boot from san devices correct?
If that's so, then what is the value of the hardware? What is your process for hardware failure in this scenario?

? If this is boot from san for all, what's the exact question? Why wouldn't you just change the hardware?

We have set up new Windows 2003 servers into SAN volumes and have all of them boot into SAN. Right now we are trying to figure out the best practice to migrate everything from the current Windows 2003 servers on Dell PowerEdge to SAN volumes including Active Directory. After migration, we want everything stay same including server names and ip addresses. Here is my thought:

1. connect SAN volumes to the existing domain and give different ip addresses.
2. Dcpromo Windows 2003 server on SAN volume to domain controllers. That means to add another two domain controllers.
3. Let them replicate.
4. depromote the current two domain controllers when the new domain controllers are ready. After depromoting, we can take them down.
5. change the new domain controllers' ip addresses and names to the same as the current domain controllers.
6. Use FSMigrate tool to move files.

Just wondering if there are any big issues that I have to worry about with this kind of move. Also do I need to use ADMT tool to do this kind of migration? Can I just use FSMigrate to migrate all the files from the current windows servers on Dell PowerEdge into the servers on SAN volumes?

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
My question is what is the best way to move (or migrate) everything including Active Directory from the current servers which are sitting on Dell PowerEdge to the servers sitting on SAN volumes? In other words, what is the best way to move (or migrate) Windows 2003 servers (including AD) from one pc to another? What do you mean "just change the hardware"? Can you be more specific? Thank you very much for the response.

We set up a SAN recently, which is brand new. There is no hardware failure issue here. Just want to move (or migrate) everything
including Active Directory from the current servers which are sitting on
Dell PowerEdge to the servers (new) sitting on SAN volumes.

Appreciate your response.

Yes.
