AD - Integrated on a DC. This is not possible on a member server.

Jorge,
Is there any advantage in having the DNS on the DC. I am actually planning
to upgrade our NT-Domain, but the plan is to have DNS/WINS on a member
server.
Thanks,
topokin

Ok. I was just trying to get you out of more admin work and hardware
needs,
but its up to you...
1 - The _msdcs Zone should be accessible to every domain, this zone is
very
important becaus DCs use it for example to replication among them.
2 - Each domain should solve anyother existing domain in the forest.
3 - Generally the root domain has a copy of all aother existing zones,
this
can be achived by creating a secondary zone or set replication scope.
4 - I personally don't like using stub zones for environments with
multiple
child domains, because stub zones don't bring along the delegations as
the
Secondaries zones do.
- Assuming that your network is fully routed and each domain can reach
each
other, the simplest way is to Create a DNS Integrated zone for each
domain,
and set the scope replication per forest basis.
- You could also configure conditional forwarding for each domain in each
DNS server.
- In last , and if you want to have a little bit of more work, you can
setup
a sutb zone or secondary for each existing domain in each DNS server, or
create these zones only at the top root domain and configure the child
zones
to conditionally forward requests for the servers at the top root domain.

Jorge,
The "why" is irrelevant at this point. One could simply make a
requirement, for example - specific business needs, political issues,
etc...
The focus is more of a technical nature for the given scenario design
rather than a redirection of questioning.

Hi X
The first question that you should do to yourself is why...
Why do think that you need another domain?
