Im new at this:
How do you add right to a specific folder on a server through active
directory; giving it a drive name to login etc.. for a user?
First, these are "Permissions" (not rights) which help you when you learn
about the other thing that Microsoft calls "rights". It will also help if
you are trying to Google search Microsoft articles on the issue.
Active Directory doesn't control the access to folders directly -- the
permissions on Shares and (separately) on NTFS directories and
files are actually located on those objects.
What AD does is provide the ACCOUNT and the Groups you use
to setup those permissions.
To access something over the network you need to allow for BOTH
Share and Directory (and/or file) permissions separately.
Each of these can be done using Windows Explorer, by bringing up
the Share properties for a particular directory you set permissions
to Read, Change, or Full Controll for a User or Group.
By using the Security properties of the Directory you set the permission
for that separate object (to a larger variety but somewhat similar set
of permissions.)
To Read a file on a Share you must have both (at least) Read at the
Share point, AND (at least) READ on the File itself.
