file ,that my desktop guys will execute to remove from domain which also
joins it to workgroup

ok isnt there away to remove the computer from the domain other than
doing it that way? I mean we have lease replacements every three years
but is actually ongoing all the time so about everyday we have may 3-10
computers being removed which to me is a hassle i could of swore this
used to work in 2000 AD.
Just shove the names into a text file (on a server etc) and run
a batch script to clear them with "DSRm" or some such.

Joined it to a workgroup called TEST
then rebooted
So you didn't actually remove the computer account from AD
but rather joined the computer elsewhere.
The computer itself can be controlled by a local admin (of the
computer) but this had no effect on the AD object which is the
computer account since that belongs to AD and presumably an
domain admin.
Something like a user getting up and leaving the domain for another
company -- the admin can keep or delete that user's account.
Delete the account in AD Users and Computers.
