Re: DC Shows as LOGONSERVER when DC is off?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

So if I logon as another user, all is well. I can access network resources,
LOGONSERVER DC is the right one and things are good.

I log off and back on as myself and I cannot connect to net resources and
the LOGONSERVER is back to the old DC! WHAT GIVES?

I really do not want to delete the user Profile and I have lots of stuff
installed and setup...

Help!

Thanks,
Scott<-

I have a DC that we turned off and it still shows up as a LOGONSERVER on a
few machines.

How do I get the PCs (Vista and XP) to see that the LOGONSERVER DC is not
available? As a result I do not get access to some network resources.

How about new logon or reboot?

Technically the "Secure Channel" should switch to a different server when
one goes down but I am unsure if this applies to the ENVIRONMENT
variable "logonserver". (probably doesn't apply is my guess.)

But if you are losing access to resources this implies that you are not
currently authenticated in the domain.

You may need to update DNS or (also) remove the dead DC from AD
with NTDSUtil "Metadata cleanup" (if the DC was no properly removed
with DCPromo while still online.)

If these don't lead to a solution you should run a complete (and local)
"DCDiag /c" on every DC and eliminate all FAIL or WARN problems.

Checking the workstations with "NetDiag /v" (and adding /fix on all
workstations and DCs may help too.)
