I have an NT 4 domain with a few servers such as web servers (IIS), MSSQL
servers and file server in addition to 50 windows XP workstations. On the
IIS
web server and MSSQL serves, we sometimes installed software as domain
administrator. Now we plan to migrate into an OU in the university windows
2003 AD (one domain structure). What happens to the previous nt4 domain
administrator profile on all servers after we migrate into the AD? Thanks.
Nothing will happen to it by default - it will be effectively lost if you
logon to a
domain account (in the U domain), it will still be available if it is the
Local Admin
when you logon to the "box", but either way it will still be on the hard
drive and
COULD be recovered if you wanted it.
If the server a Domain controller or "just a server"? If it is a xDC then
that
Administrator account will no longer exist when the domain is consolidated
with an existing domain -- there is however no supported way to turn an
NT-DC into a non-DC (i.e., to join an existing domain). The NT-DC can
be upgraded to Win200x and then DCPromo'ed to non-DC but that may
present hardware issues.
You haven't yet fully described your current setup nor you exact goal
(rather
than ask about one of the details you have in mind towards that goal.)
