Hi,
Yes i would have to move the DC to this new site.
What about the old site - it will not have any DC ?
At present the existing Site (abc) has the DC.
I created the New Site for the second subnet (abc2).
I move the DC from existing Site (abc) to New site (abc2).
I am little confused here ? I have one DC with two subnets. At present i
have created a single site and both the subnets point to that site. This site
have the Local DC. We can have the DC either under existing site (abc) or the
new site (abc2).
Please guide. Thanks,
abc.

You need to move the DC to the new site, it won't move for you. Open up.
Active directory Sites and Services and drag the dc object to the new site.

Hi,
Sorry to reply late.
I created a new site.
I created a new IP site link between this new (say abc2) and other
existing
site (say abc).
I pointed the second subnet in my network to this new site (i.e. abc2) and
the first subnet is already pointing to existing site (i.e. abc).
To say, the existing site will have the DC on my network as the server and
will also have replication links to the PDC.
But the new site link will not have any server (DC) defined. I hope there
is
nothing wrong here, i am doing.
Please suggest. Thanks.
abckid.

Hi,
Thanks all for the replies.
Jorge----
We have a single domain with several DC at different sites. Now say,
when
i
ping to my local dc - abc.domain.local i get reply 192.168.2.10 (this
is
subnet 1). when i ping from subnet 1 PC to domain.local, i get reply
from
abc.domain.local. But when i ping from a PC on another subnet (say
192.168.3.100) to domain.local, i do not get replies from
abc.domain.local. I
get replies from other DCs (may be xyz.domain.local at some other site
or
def.domain.local at random)
Paul----
Yes i only have one Site, not default (e.g. abc) and two subnets, both
associated with this Site (e.g. abc).
So you mean i will have to create a new site (call it abc2) and
associate
the subnet 2 with this site. Create a new IP site link between them.
Exactly. This way users from the oppositie sub-nets won't, by default,
attach to the remote dc. They will only do this if the local dc isn't
able
to respond in a timely manner.
Thanks
abc.

You should have two sites defined if you want the dc local to each
subnet
to
reply to that subnet. From what I understand you only have one (The
default
site) site defined.
You should go into sites and services (ADSS) and create a second site
and
a
site link between the two sites. Then define the subnets and
associate
the
subnets with the specific site you have in mind.
JSI has an article that should help you out.

Hi,
Hope am excused for putting in my problem here. Sounds similar.
I have two subnets in my network. RID ; PDC ; Infrastructure master
DC
is
at
remote site (at our Head Office). We have DC at our site. DC ; DNS
is
in
subnet 1. Half of the PC on subnet 1 and half of them on subnet 2.
All
PC
in
subnet 1 can correctly resolve the domain (e.g. ping domain.local -
replies
from local DC) in the local sunet. When i ping from PC which is on
subnet
2,
i get replies from a different DC. I should get the reply from my
locad
DC,
which in subnet 1. I flush the DNS and register again. I get reply
from
another different DC again. I have added both the subnets to my DC
in
ADSS
Subnets pointing to our local Site.
Any suggestions / help please.
Thanks,
abckid.

To follow up on Jorge. Each geographical site has 1 or more
subnets
that
can be controlled to have all local clients talk to a local dc if
you
associate network subnets with a dc. Active Directory Sites and
Services
allows you to do just this.

Hi
If that DC that you say is in the local network close to the
workstation,
and the workstation is using some other DC, this generally means
that
your
sites and services aren't properly configured, make sure that the
client
machine use that server in the preferred DNS settings, and that
the
Site
where the server and machine belongs have the correct subnet
assigned.

I hope that the information above helps you.
