Two separate things
one is NetBIOS and the other is dns
Both have there own name resolution strategies. There are plenty of
organizations that have completely different names such as
NT4 = widgets
windows 2000/2003 = wonderstuff.com
yet both can be used to authenticate to the same domain
If you want to authenticate using the 2000/2003 name you would enter a fqdn
in the user name administrator@xxxxxxxxxxxx and the domain "log on to"
dialog box would not be available on the user gina. Otherwise you have to
enter a name and a domain. By default most folks use the domain drop down
box.

Hello,
I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
I have a domain that I moved from 2000 to a 2003 domain. I upgraded
the domain functional level, and forest to Windows Server 2003. If I
go to Active Directory Domain Names and Trusts it lists as
domainname.org, and both level, and forest are Windows 2003.
The part that I don't understand is the Domain Name says (pre-windows
2000) and the name domainname without the .org on the end, but active
directory lists it with the .org.
I was wondering how to change everything to show what it's suppose to.
Thanks,
Dale
