Yes. That is one way. You can create a subnet for the remote site, and a
site object. Then create a site-link object and add the remote site and the
main site to the site link. You can also just add the subnet to the main
site.

The designs I work on use the former statement. I create a site for any
physical site or VLAN. And site links to generate a hub and spoke topology.
If there's DC-less sites, that's not an issue. The auto-site coverage
algorithm will register DCs from the main site in the remote, DC-less sites.
This is helpful if you have site aware applications that use site-link
costing, such as DFS or Exchange 2003 SP2 and Outlook 2003/ 2007.
