Herb,
Thanks for all the feedback. I use PDC for the first DC or the one with
the FSMO roles, I am technically incorrect on that.
It's not a big deal if everyone knows what you mean (e.g.,
perhaps in your local environment) but the "first DC" may
not be the PDC Emulator in some cases.
The other issue is that when you misuse the terms you will
tend to get help pitch at a beginning level and we may have
to presume you have overlook the obvious etc.
I did NOT delete the site links, you are correct, I did delete the objects
Connection Objects -- all these things are "objects" (sites, sitelinks,
users, computers, connections and many others....)
knowing they would be rebuilt correctly. I have checked all the sites,
site links, and DC locations. I only have 4 sites and my network is a hub
and spoke, not a mesh. One forest, One domain, 4 sites with DC's.
3 manual Site Links? All Sites removed from the Default-Ip-Site-Link
and place in the 3 manual links?
I don't currently have a GC in the main site because when seizing the FSMO
roles I read that the DC with the FSMO roles should not also be a GC.
It's a bit (or a lot) more complicated than that: You need at least one GC
per site, the Domain Naming Master MUST be a GC, and in some
multi-domain forests (only) the Infrastructure Master should not hold a GC.
In a single domain forest EVERY DC should be a GC -- in a small multi-domain
forest you may even make them all GCs. Once they are all GC or with a
single
domain in the forest there is no reason for the IM to be separate from the
GC.
Those articles that say such things go on and on for pages without saying
the
simple stuff above in one place. (They usually get around to it but by that
time most beginners are snoozing through....)
