If you intend on decommissioning I have some notes to help you cover the
bases.

Cheers MyWeb

Reason for roles to new server is because old server getting a bit flaky
and will probably end up de-comissioned. Thanks again for your help

Hello Gary,

You have to upgrade the Schema on the existing DC to the new version for
R2. Insert the R2 CD/DVD and run adprep /forestprep and adprep
/domainprep against the existing DC with an account that has Schema
Administrator rights.
But why should the new server get all the FSMO roles? Make it just a DNS
server for redundancy and GC server after promoting.

Best regards

Hi

I have a sole W2K3 SP1 DC which has all the FSMO roles. I intend to
add another DC which has R2 installed. I intend to make the new W2K3
R2 server the one which holds all the FSMO Roles.

Are there any issues around R2 and SP1 together in this scenario ????

Thanks in advance for any advice

Gary
