Re: server cannot join domain

Do you have any DNS zone installed in the bax A? If no, you need to recreate them.
remove the loopback address (127.0.0.1), and replace with the ip of the server.

Go to Active Directory Users and Computers, and enable and reset the account for box B (right click on it and choose enable then reset), amke sure that the in internal nic of box B has its DNS pointed to the ip of the box A server.

Hello Jorge,
box A (the DC) has one NIC, its preferred dns is itself (127.0.0.1), its alternate dns is its own ip address. its DNS service was removed, so I re-Installed it, are there any special settings to make for this service other then the defaults?
box B (non DC) has 2 NICs, the WAN nic gets its settings from the isp, the LAN nic has its dns pointing to the DC (box A).
Still cannot add box B to domain, same error mentioned earlier shows up. On the DC, in the Computers folder of AD, box B is listed but with a red X; Any other settings are required to get this to work?

Thanks

Hi
Make sure that the DC points to itself under DNS properties (assuming that the DC is also a DNS server), and that the other server point to the DC in the DNS preferred DNS settings.

Hi,
I have a very simple LAN: 2 boxes (A and B). each is win server 2003 with 2 NICs (LAN, WAN).A is domain controller, B is just a server.
I Could not add B to domain (Apparently because A is multi-homed) so I removed the second NIC from the DC, but still cannot add B to the domain. The error being the same as when A is multi-homed: "the specified server cannot perform the requested operation". Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
Thanks
