Hi
Assuming that you have only 1 domain, Start by disable the UGMC, there's no need to have that enabled, make both DCs GCs, you don't have more replication traffic by making both DCs GCs because they belong to the same domain and each one have the same information in their AD database, so the cost of having both DCs as GCs is nothing, then make sure that the client machine use their local DNS server, and finally analyse your traffic and make sure that you don't have any application or machines trying to reach the other DC in the other site, or any other member server.

I hope that the information above helps you.

I have a native 2003 active directory domain spread across 2 sites, site A and site B. I have set up the 2 sites and associated the respective subnet to them. I have 2 domain controllers, 1 in each site. Site A have the domain controller that holds all of the fsmo roles as well as the global catolog server. Site B's domain controller is set up as a global catalog server. Group membership caching is enabled on both domain controllers.

The 2 sites are connected by a radio link which occasionally experiences drop outs or lost packets.

I work in site B.

The problem is that I can always tell when the radio link is playing up because my workstation starts freezing whenever I try to run a program or click on the start menu. Then after 5-10 seconds the computer becomes responsive again. This problem only occurs when the radio link is losing connectivity. I tried another workstation and experienced the same pattern of freezing when trying to open programs or use the start menu. (I log on as local administrator to these workstations by the way)

Does any one have any suggestions on what I can do to correct this problem? I have run dcdiag, netdiag, repadmin, etc and the configuration seems correct. The workstation reports it is in site B I run a script to check this property.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks,

John
