IT sounds like from reading this KB 314649, that if i run the
exchange 2003 /forestprep command first and then run the 2003 adprep
/forestprep command. If i do it this way it looks as if i can avoid
the mangled attribute issue.
"You add Exchange 2000 to an existing Windows 2000 forest. You then
run the Exchange Server 2003 setup /forestprep command before you run
the Windows Server 2003 adprep /forestprep command"

Don't forget to run the /gpprep as Paul mentioned.
