Re: Why are apps reinstalled?

From: "Danny Sanders" <DSanders@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Sounds like the apps are assigned by user and this is the first time this
user logged on to that computer.

I think the apps are assigned by group; "Students".
Their profiles (of course) and map redirection on a per user basis.
Will check this out.

Even though another user logged onto that laptop and the software got
installed when they logged on, it was installed in *their* particular
profile. I suspect other users on the same computer don't have access to
another user's profile (they are not administrators) unless they log on
using the other user's credentials.

You're right, other users dont' have access to another users profile.

If they have never logged onto that particular computer before, the first
time they log in, their get a pristine profile, they can't use software
installed under another user's profile so the application installs into
their profile.

The idea behind the systems structure is when a students logs in
to check the installed software and install only when it is not there or
damaged.
So normally when a next students logs in only his profile is copied but
not all the software. This copying of the software happens to often imo, and
I don't know why.

If what you say is true for software assigned on a per group basis this
explains the - in my eyes - strange behaviour.
At first I thought it had something to do with a previous user damaging
the software, thereby initiating a new install for the next user.
It happens to often (3 out of 23 reinstalling) though.
I also don't know when the system considers software "damaged".
Is dragging a desktop icon to another location "damaging"?

Thanks for your help, I know where to look now.
