You have chosen to cancel the upgrade of this domain controller, which
will make this computer a member server of domain ABCDEF.|
If I press Next, the configuration fails because: The specified domain
either does not exist or could not be contacted.
You need to point the DNS entry on this server to the DNS server for the AD
domain you are trying to join it to.

I originally asked this in the Windows2003 general group. I think I may
have posted to the wrong group. I hope someone here can shed some light
on this.
I have attempted to upgrade a Win NT Server to Win2K3R2. The NT machine
was a DC (for example, named ABCDEF), but I want the machine to be part
of a different 2003 domain. The logical approach (at least I thought)
was to stop the installation of AD after the update - i.e., cancel the
AD installation wizard. I now know that was a mistake. Unfortunately,
now when I run ADIW, it goes through the prompts and ends up telling me
that it cannot connect to the ABCDEF AD in order to cancel the
installation of AD. Specifically, the message (after the new admin
password prompt) is:
You have chosen to cancel the upgrade of this domain controller, which
will make this computer a member server of domain ABCDEF.|
If I press Next, the configuration fails because: The specified domain
either does not exist or could not be contacted.
OK - Is there a way that I can cause the ADIW to give up on my attempt
to cancel the configuration? If I can do that, I think that I could
install AD on this machine and then change to a different domain.
Thanks,
Ed.
