You can grant Sharing permissions to certain group/user just you do with
NTFS. No need to grant change to everyone.

Check to make sure the everyone group has the "change" share permission.
Share permissions not NTFS permissions.

I have a 2003 domain. For the last week I have been having a problem with
network shares. I create a shared directory and put some word, excel,
etc
files in that directory. i then grant full control to certain users who
are
members of the domain users group. When they map that share and open a
file
it will open as a read only file. If I add that same user to the domain
admins group they are able to open the files with full permisssions.
