Re: additional 2003 domain controller

In news:1165197653.770028.297990@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
linuxnooby@xxxxxxxxxxxx <linuxnooby@xxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented
on below:
Hi

I have added an 2nd domain controller to a 2003 domain.
DC1 (original domain controller)
DC2 ( additional domain controller)
On both domain controllers I can see the Active directory information
being replicated both ways, so far so good. If I shutdown DC1, I am no
longer able to view/edit active directory on DC2. I have enabled
Global Catalog on DC2 via the NTDS settings.

Error message on DC2
Naming information cannot be located because:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

I want DC2 to have a fully functioning version of active directory in
case DC1 fails.

Any thoughts??

cheers Dave

That error indicates a DNS misonfig. Are both servers DNS servers? Is the
zone AD Integrated?

Simply speaking, I would suggest to install DNS on both, make the zone AD
integrated, and on each DC, point the first entry to itself, and the second
one to the partner DC.
