You shoud be carefull with Domain Functional Level (DFL) and Forest Functional Level (FFL).
If you only have Windows 2003 DCs and Windows NT4 DCs, you can setup your DFL to interim mode (note this DFL/FFL doesn't allow Windows 2000 DCS). The other choice would be Windows 2000 Mixed Mode.
With Interim mode you can take advantage of LVR between Windows 2003 DCs.

Hi ,

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Please take into consideration that I have to keep the NT BDCs for both
domains for some application hosted by them which cannot be supported on
2003.The two domains must be trusting each other so that users on one domain
can get resources from the other.

Plz advice

Dinesh

If you're going to upgrade I don't see any problem with that, however if you'tr going to create a new (Seperate - clean install) you must have a Different Domain name.
Read the suggestions on the post before named "Update from NT4 to Server 2003 domain"

Hi

I am planning to upgrade the NT domains to AD 2003.For positioning the domain structure, We have 2 NT domains on the same subnet. I need to keep the NT PDC for some backward compatibility for some legacy applications.

My question is can I use the existing domain names , with 1 2003 DC for domain and retain the NT BDCs , create a two way trust between the NT4 and 2003 DC, should ther be any problem in users accessing resources hosted on the NT PDC ?

Thanks
Dinesh
