Hello Peter,
A bridgehead server is used for connection between domains, e.g. to replicate AD data. If you have more DC's one of them will be configured as bridgehead server to communicate with the other bridgehead server. So not all of your DC's will talk to the other domain.
Even Exchange use the same functionality. If you have more exchange servers in your domain all mail traffic will be routed over this special server.

bridgehead server is and, what is it's function.
