There is no direct method to promote an OU to a new domain. If you want to
migrate the resources contained within an OU into a new domain, you can
create the new domain to fit your needs (either as a brand-new forest, as a
child domain of an existing domain, or as a new domain tree in an existing
forest), and then use the Active Directory Migration Tool to migrate the
resources from DomainA\OrgUnit1 to DomainB.

I have read somewhere that in w2k3 an Organizational Unit can easily be
promoted to a Domain. But I have nowhere found any hint how this can be
done.
My questiosn actually are:
- how do I promote an OU to a Domain, do I have to do this on a dedicated
hardware since finally the new domain has to run on a DC?
- if I promote an OU to a domain, whci domain does this become. To be more
specific:
There is domain xxxxx.com
There is child-domian de.xxxxx.com
There is OU "UK" in the child-domain de.xxxxx.com
If I now want to promote OU UK to a domain, will this be finally the
child-domain "uk.xxxxx.com" of xxxxx.com or the child-domain
"uk.de.xxxxx.com" of the domain de.xxxxx.com?
Or can I decide at promtion task where to place this domain?
Thank You
Dieter
