I'm having a similar problem. When I installed AD I LOST all internet
connection & I can't contact the wirless router anymore. Any more ideas?

Folks,

I am planning to Install windows 2003 as a Domain Controller on my home
network with a Wireless Router.

This is what i have.

High Speed internet connection (Fiber Optic Drop)
1 Server. Which i would like to use as DC (AD)
1 Laptop which I would like to join the AD and share Resources.
1 Network Printer which is already connected to the Wireless Router
1 Wireless Router which connects, My Server, Printer and Wirless Laptop.

Today everything works independently, except the printer, which is shared
as
its connected to the Wireless Router.

This is What i would like to accomplish...

Install AD on the Server, It currently gets its IP Address from the
Wireless
Router's DHCP.

Have my Laptop Join the Domain.. and Still HAVE THE INTERNET Connection.

All internal clients (including the DC or DNS server itself) MUST
set the IP->DNS Server properties STRICTLY to the internal DNS
server.

The Internal DNS server will usually Forward (server config in MMC)
to the ISP (or your Firewall DNS).

Do NOT try to mix both "internal" and "external" DNS servers on
the client NIC settings.

Use forwarding OR (if you must) let your DNS server handle the
Internet with direct queries (recursions) but this is less secure.

Seems Pretty Simple Config to you Pros. Correct ?

I would to get some inputs on how to accomplise the above. I have the
Licenced Windows 2003 Server software. I can install the AD as well.

I am lost as far as the Config goes.. Since my Router is also the DHCP,

You might wish to change that and let the Windows server do DHCP --
it may not be necessary but the Windows DCHP usually gives MORE
options to configure everything the way you REALLY want it.

How do i go about configureing the DHCP, IP Addresses, Do i need DNS ?

Yes, DNS is require for AD.

how do i point the Server to look at the Router ?

On the NIC you set the router as "Default Gateway".

You must NOT set the router (or the ISP) as the DNS server.

Set your DNS server (which will end up on your DC if you do
nothing special during DCPromo) to forward to either the router
or the ISP for DNS (router is somewhat better if that works.)

Once i have the Server Working
, then i guess the laptop should follow by just having it join the Domain
??

Right and having it's NIC set to use ONLY the INTERNAL DNS
server for the domain. Let that DNS server deal with the Internet
names by either forwarding or another method.

Any inputs would be Great

Good luck. Ask again when you have another question of if anything
is unclear.
