Harry Hornet <HarryHornet@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I
commented on below:
I hope someone can help me and prevent me pulling what little hair I
have left out.
I am running Windows Server 2003 with a mixture of XP and 2000 Pro
clients. I have an MSI file that I want to deploy to all workstations.
I have set up a GPO to assign this software.
On the 2000 machines, it shows that managed software is being
installed when the PC boots up, but it doesn't get installed. On the
XP machines, there is no indication that anything has been installed
at all.
I cannot see what I am doing wrong, please help!!!
Difficult to h elp with the info you provided. There are many factors with
deploying software using GPOs.
Such as:
Are you publishing or assigning them?
If publishing it, did you create categories? Have you looked in Add/Remove
to see if it showed up as available?
Keep in mind you can't publish to a computer because a computer can't decide
to install it or not.
Are the users in the correct OU?
Any restrictions on the GPOs?
Have you actually checked RSOP to see if they are actually getting the GPO?
Any problems with AD?
Event log errors on the DCs and/or workstations?
AD a single label name? (Ouch!)
SRV records registered?
DC multihomed? (Ouch!)
If AD is messed up, then that will put a damper on more than just GPOs. A
simple ISP's DNS address in a clients and/or DC's IP properties will surely
create numerous errors, as well as a single label name.
So you see, there are many many factors.
See if these help:
