Re: Error when launching ADUC

In news:CFD55CE7-4A8B-4B61-8CB6-C274DF8376B4@xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
COT-AD <COTAD@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented on below:
I have an admin that receives the following error when trying to run
Active Directory Users and Computers:

naming information cannot be located because: class not registered.

We have uninstalled and reinstalled the admin tools but he receives
the same message. Thoughts?

Common cause is DNS misconfigured.

When ADUC or any other app that requires to access AD (including logging in,
authenticating to printers, shares, etc), queries DNS. If an ISP's DNS is in
there, or the zone does not have the correct data, and numerous other
issues, then the app cannot find the DC, hence an error is generated. The
one you describe is one of these.

Best place to start is to provide us with an ipconfig /all (unedited please)
to get a better 'picture' of your configuration.

Thanks,

Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express
or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to
news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public
Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you
to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name,
watched threads or subject.
It's easy:
