Hi
I have many sites now defined in one domain, most of my sites are located on the end of slow 2mbit links, my reasons for domain controllers is the same as most, performance, resilance and dr.
- Slow links??? 2mbps.
My problem is not with these sites as such, but more the machines at my main site, they are all a member of the default first site by ip range subnets.
The problem, many machines are randomly using the domain controllers at the end of these 2mbit links instead of the two located at my main site.
This generally means bad site configuration or bad DNS settings.
Make sure that you have One site for each branch office, that you have the appropriate subnets assigned to these sites, and that you have one DNS server per site as one GC per site, also make sure that the clientsonly use their local DNS servers and not ISP servers or some DNS server external to the domain.

I hope that the information above helps you

Hi everyone,

The problem, many machines are randomly using the domain controllers at the end of these 2mbit links instead of the two located at my main site.
Can someone explain why this happens and how to fix the problem.
My first thoughts are to create another site for my main site and move my domain controllers into it and assign my main site subnets to this new site?
Logon performance at my main site is dire right now in excess of 15minutes, after checking those slow computers its noticable that the logonserver is a server at the end of a 2mbit cable not good!
Thankyou greatly for any help.
