Re: Maximum ammount of BDCs in a single domain

I seem to recall hearing once that there was an issue around 850 DCs for
Windows 2000. I don't know the details though.

i remember something like max number of values in non-linked multi-valued
attribute

and again something tells me for 2003 that value is around 1300

2. As long as users can reach a DNS server with the Domain SRV records and
reach another DC in the domain they should be fine.

3. You should search on the term FSMO. Most changes can be made on any DC.

Overall you will be pummeled for using the BDC terminology anymore. You
have DCs and you have the PDC or some folks call it the PDCe for PDC
Emulator.

Hi all,

A few questions from someone who just knows only the absolute basics
about AD.

1, In a Windows 2000 Domain how many backup domain controllers can you
have, is it just the one?

2, If the primary domain controller fails, and you have a PDC (with its
own DNS server) can users still login and authenticate for access to
objects that are part of the domain but do not reside on the PDC, and is
there a time limit to when the clients will not be able to access the
objects (like if the PDC stayed down for a week?)

2, In the situation that the PDC is not running does the BDC only have
read only access to the AD database IE: could you create new users and
change object permissions during the PDC servers down time?

Mike.
