Hi
probably you need to run forestprep from CD2
Drive:\CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP\adprep.exe /forestprep
Error message when you run the Active Directory Installation Wizard: "The
version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not
compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer"

How to determine the version of Windows Server 2003 R2 that is running on a
computer

I have a 2000 network running. I took our backup domain controller off
line
and put it on a private network with our new 2003 server which will be one
of
our domain controllers. I ran adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep
and
received no errors. When I ran dcpromo on the new domain controller I got
an
error saying that the forest wasn't properly prepared.
My boss then suggested doing an inplace upgrade on the 2000 server and
then
we could just have the AD already there. But the AD didn't convert and
says
that the schema isn't correct. It says to run Adprep /Forestprep from the
second Windows 2003 R2 cd. When I run this I get Adprep encountered a
Win32
error: 0x3a The specified server can not perform the requested operation.
I can re-install 2000 on the system and re-store the system and system
state
but was trying to avoid that.
Any suggestions where to go from here.
