Can I ask why no samba? If no CIFS than not many options left, I can think now only about NFS.
systems are on the same IP subnet OK and can at least talk at that level e.g. ftp, telnet.
I also want guidance at to (beyond file sharing) what other interoperabilities are worth doing and what is isn't.
AS I said You can start with integrating authentication and authorization around Your Active Directory in other systems which IMO is a good approach.
